Amy started playing the cornet at the age of seven in her local Primary
School. By the age of ten she had completed her Grade Four and came
second in the Junior Section of her local Solo Competition. By the age
of twelve she was on the front row of Newtownards Silver Band and
her first solo part was the initial melody in The Mission; she
played this so well her Dad, the Euphonium player, kept missing his
entry in the last two bars. Amy then visited her Orthodontist who had
little appreciation of the needs of a Brass Band and greater
understanding of the needs of Amy’s teeth. As a result Amy spent two
years with braces and moved into the back row to help out. Amy is
currently on Repiano Cornet. She has had her braces removed and
during the summer of 2006 played the Last Rose of Summer with
the Fodens Octet in Armagh. She was also a member of the five
piece ensemble that won the street musicians competition during the
same summer school.
